1. We are moving (again!)

Sadly we must announce that we are leaving Cork for pastures new next week, this obviously means that we are no longer able to commit to running our shop inside Cork Community Print Shop so as a farewell to the city that has been our (and very welcoming) home for the last 3 years we are having a moving sale for our last week.
It is of course not the end of the Printshop, which has seen quite a few changes over the last few months as we have adapted to other members leaving. Along with the remainder of the team and some new members some great new developments are already in the works!
Our partners in crime The Hobo Convention are still onboard and have exciting plans on the record selling front so keep an eye out for that!
Label and mailorder business will continue as usual from our new surrounds in Sligo (soon to become the diy record label capital of the country with Distroy Records and Bluestack Records already in residence).
So to help lighten our load in moving to the north-west we’ll be having a sale on for our remaining time in the Printshop - 3 for 2 on all AFB stock except consignment titles.

Printshop opening times: Wed - Sat 12-6pm

  4. Plaids ‘Twenty-two’: First Listen

Nottingham emo-punx Plaids are about to drop their debut LP, the record will be released later this summer on Art for Blind and also in conjunction with Barely Regal Records (London, UK) and Dingleberry Records (Giessen, DE) and as a taster the good folks over at Brooklyn Vegan are streaming the track ‘twenty-two’.

    Listen direct at brooklynvegan.com

Since premiering stateside, the track is gaining traction quickly and garnered this attention from DIY "twisting, high-gain riffs weave their way around a frantic rhythm section, fit to collapse at any moment from the speed such fury requires"

Plaids s/t LP artwork - cover design by Kyle McPartlin

This will be the third collaboration between Art for Blind and Plaids following first releasing their s/t 7” and their split cassette with Aussie four-piece No Action.

  5. In January this year we set about preparing to release a split 7” featuring Human Hands and Carson Wells, a split release between ourselves and several other labels. When we received the test press for the 7” there was a slight mistake…. I had sent the wrong track for the Human Hands side. I actually sent the track Knot which we released 2 years previously on the now out of print split with Bird Calls.

This meant we had to re-cut the Human Hands side. As a result we have decided to offer both the incorrect and actual test presses for sale to try and recoup some of the expense incurred by the cock up. Both records are housed in a card fold over sleeve with the same artwork as the actual press but printed on different stock (brown Kraft card). They also both come a digital download code for both Carson Wells tracks, Knot and Exterior by Human Hands. We will also throw in a randomly selected bonus 7” from the distro.

The tests are limited to 5 of each and can be ordered from our webshop now!

The band head back out on the road this May bank holiday weekend for some festival dates - Friday night they warm up at The Menagerie in Belfast before an appearance at the inaugural Distorted Perspectives Festival in Letterkenny on Saturday and Sunday takes them to Vantastival Festival in Bellurgan Park, Co.Louth - they are just fresh off the road, having only just completed a storming (read this review from the Last Mixed Tape) five-date Irish tour as part of The Certain Three showcase.

Cathal also took time to speak to Belfast-based blog The Thin Air about their recent touring and new material.

  9. While everyone was busy buying rekkids on RSD (and we’re very grateful to all you who came through our big orange doors for that reason) the very lovely Brid O’Donovan was scurrying around all of Cork’s record shops photographing the action for music blog The Thin Air and here’s the results
