1. We are excited to announce we will be releasing a 7” by Syracuse, NY noise-inks Perfect Pussy on May 5th. We got in touch with Perfect Pussy in autumn last year and began to hatch plans to release a limited 7” through the label. However, shortly after we got in touch the band was picked up by Brooklyn label Captured Tracks and we agreed instead that we would release a vinyl version of the track “I” from the band’s self released EP from April last year with a live b-side recording of Bells from their recently released LP “Say Yes to Love” which was released in March.

Initially we hoped that this single would be available before the band released their debut album, but unfortunately the pressing suffered from a bad case of “record store delay”. The 7” will be available to pre-order at the beginning next week, but until then here’s a video the band made for the title track I.

  2. Record Store Day

As a record label we have mixed feelings on the now annual phenomenon that Record Store Day has become. We recently spoke with the music blog The 405 about how RSD impacts small labels like ourselves (a very insightful article if you haven’t already read it) and despite the growing concerns for what it has become, at it’s core still lies a celebration of independent record stores and a re-ignition of the love for physical formats particularly vinyl.

Having recently opened a bricks and mortar shop ourselves inside Cork Community PrintShop, which we opened back in November, it is very difficult for us to ignore this celebration just because of some of the heightened commercial activities that are now a fixture of the day.

In terms of our shop, we deal directly with bands and other small labels to obtain our stock, we are not “in” the main distribution networks however our stock - by it’s very nature - features an array of limited editions; small pressings of LPs and cassettes from underground labels supporting music they are passionate about. So, for Record Store Day we don’t have the exclusive special editions that grab all the column inches in blogs BUT we do have a new release to celebrate on the day in the shape of new single “Dig Early” by The Altered Hours which arrived back from the plant last week and will be on sale in the shop ahead of it’s official Irish release on Monday April 21st. We will be joined too by a host of Cork’s DJs and random music-heads to play their favourite records throughout the day. A full schedule will be published closer to the time.

The shop will be open as usual from 11am to 6pm, our pop-up cafe will be on the go selling teas, coffee and cakes by Sugar Moon Vegan and there’ll be boardgames too!

  7. New website now live

The new website is live, we would welcome any feedback you have for us on it, mail us at artforblind[at]gmail[dot]com with your comments - good or bad ;)

One of the main things we want to achieve with the website is to have a living document of the label’s activities, the bands we have worked with and showcase some of the great things that happen at the level we operate… so you can now catch up on all the latest label news, listen to new tracks & watch promo videos all from the new website. We’ve also added a dedicated discography page where you can learn more about each of the label’s releases, this is still a work in progress as we work back through all 40 records. In time we will also be moving our webshop to be more integrated into the new site.

  10. thugkitchen:

I was saving this shit for the upcoming cookbook but since it’s the most requested recipe, fuck it HERE YA GO. The Thug Kitchen RCB Burrito.

    ROASTED CHICKPEA & BROCCOLI BURRITO

3 cups of cooked chickpeas  (2-15 ounce cans, drained)

    1 large yellow onion

    1 red bell pepper

    1 large crown of broccoli

    4 cloves of garlic

    1 lime

    Spice Blend:

    3 tablespoons olive oil

1-2 tablespoons soy sauce, tamari, or Bragg’s Liquid Aminos (You can usually find this old school hippie shit near the vinegars or soy sauces in the healthy eating section of most big grocery stores and on the internet)

    2 teaspoons chili powder

    1 teaspoon ground cumin

    1 teaspoon smoked paprika

1/2 teaspoon ground coriander or more cumin if you don’t want to go to the store

black pepper or cayenne pepper to taste

Heat the oven to 425 degrees. Chop up the onion, bell pepper, and broccoli so that all the pieces about the size of a chickpea. Chop up the garlic real small but save that shit until later. Place all the chopped up veggies in a large bowl with the cooked chickpeas. Pour in the oil and soy sauce, stir, and then throw all the spices in there. Mix until all the vegetables and shit are covered.

Put all of that on a large rimmed baking sheet (like what you would put cookies on but with an edge) and bake for 20 minutes. Take it out of the oven, don’t fucking burn yourself, add the garlic, and bake for another 15 minutes. The broccoli will look a little burnt at this point but that is the plan so chill the fuck out and take it out of the oven. Squeeze the juice of half of the lime over the pan and stir the roasted chickpeas and veggies all around. Taste some and see if it needs more spices or anything. Now make a fucking burrito. I like mine with spinach, avocado, cilantro, and some fire roasted salsa but you do your thing.

    makes 6-8 burritos
