We will be releasing the Plaids Self Titled LP on September 22nd and you can currently stream the whole record over at Brooklyn Vegan.

The album is a split release between ourselves, Barely Regal and Dingleberry Records on vinyl and Digital Download. You can also pre-order the vinyl version with a limited number available (100) on White Vinyl for mailorder only.

  3. Release News - Broken Arm, Plaids, Hands Up Who Wants To Die

After a quiet summer release-wise we now have three albums inbound in the same number of weeks. First up we have an official release of “Life is Short” by Broken Arm. We go back quite a way with Broken Arm, back to our days in Leeds, and are thrilled to finally bring their debut LP to the fore. This record is a split release with our buds Gringo in Nottingham and is released on Vinyl only in an edition of 300 of Clear, Heavyweight vinyl. Our second September release is the debut album by Plaids, also of Nottingham. We released a 7” single and cassette featuring Plaids last year and hatched plans to put together their LP whilst we drove around the mainland in the summer of the same year. The band continue their penchant for numbered tracks over names and the record comes housed in celestial artwork designed by Kyle McPartlin. You can listen to Twenty Nine below from the LP and the whole album will be available to stream and pre-order this time next week. Finally, we have another exciting Irish release to announce. We have teamed up with Dublin based noise rockers Hands Up Who Wants to Die to release their second album “Vega in the Lyre”. Hands Up will be playing two release gigs, firstly in Cork with Ten Past Seven in the Printshop on Friday Sept 26th and then Saturday 27th in Dublin at Block T with Katie Kim and Turning Down Sex, with the record being available on both nights. There is a video for the track “Dreft” which premiered on The Thin Air this afternoon and is directed by Steve Sissou.

  4. It has been a while coming but we can finally announce an official release date for “Life is Short” the debut LP by Broken Arm. The record will be available in record shops from September 15th and all outstanding pre-orders will be shipped then too. You can still pick up the pre-order here on limited edition heavyweight clear vinyl if you wish.

Broken Arm will be demonstrating their live prowess in these locations over the coming weeks in support of the release:

Friday 5th September - Nottingham - The Chameleon w/ The Wharves
Saturday 13th September - Leeds - Wharf Chambers w/ Showmans Wagon, Ygrec

  5. Twisted Irish Tour

Twisted’s four date tour of Ireland gets underway in New Ross this evening. This is the first visit by the Porthcawl punx to Ireland and we hope it won’t be the last.

    The dates involved are:
Tues 19th - CDP, New Ross w/ w/ The Blackmail House, Jimmy Shields
    Wed 20th - Emmett’s, Ballina w/ Two Comfortable Men
Fri 22nd - The Hut, Dublin w/ New Gods, Gaze
    Sat 23rd - The Printshop, Cork w/Hags

Along with Specialist Subject Records we will be releasing their debut LP “Utopia” later this year. The band have of course undergone a few line-up changes in their time together, it was under their Leeds incarnation that we released two 7”s by them, first the explosive Revolution Summer emo found on “Stockholm” and then a split with another AFB alumnus What Price, Wonderland?

While we wait for the LP, the band will have copies of their latest demo with them which they self-released earlier this year on cassette. They also recently just dropped a cover of “Reality Breakdown” by No Trend from their LP tracking session, which you can listen to via youtube

  6. Last week we finally got to catch Perfect Pussy live when we headed over to our former home of Leeds. The band are currently on the road with Welsh noise poppers Joanna Gruesome and both bands took to the stage at our favourite place in Leeds “Wharf Chambers”.

Unfortunately as we spent the whole day catching up with as many Leeds buds as possible and getting our fill of tepid flat ale before we returned home, there’s no visual evidence that this happened but, in lieu of that here’s a video of the band performing “I” from the single we released at Pitchfork Festival earlier this summer.

You can still pick up the single from us and the band themselves, at least for the time being anyway….

  7. We are moving (again!)

Sadly we must announce that we are leaving Cork for pastures new next week, this obviously means that we are no longer able to commit to running our shop inside Cork Community Print Shop so as a farewell to the city that has been our (and very welcoming) home for the last 3 years we are having a moving sale for our last week.
It is of course not the end of the Printshop, which has seen quite a few changes over the last few months as we have adapted to other members leaving. Along with the remainder of the team and some new members some great new developments are already in the works!
Our partners in crime The Hobo Convention are still onboard and have exciting plans on the record selling front so keep an eye out for that!
Label and mailorder business will continue as usual from our new surrounds in Sligo (soon to become the diy record label capital of the country with Distroy Records and Bluestack Records already in residence).
So to help lighten our load in moving to the north-west we’ll be having a sale on for our remaining time in the Printshop - 3 for 2 on all AFB stock except consignment titles.

Printshop opening times: Wed - Sat 12-6pm

The band will be back on the road again at the end of July for some more festival dates around Ireland:

  10. Plaids ‘Twenty-two’: First Listen

Nottingham emo-punx Plaids are about to drop their debut LP, the record will be released later this summer on Art for Blind and also in conjunction with Barely Regal Records (London, UK) and Dingleberry Records (Giessen, DE) and as a taster the good folks over at Brooklyn Vegan are streaming the track ‘twenty-two’.

    Listen direct at brooklynvegan.com

Since premiering stateside, the track is gaining traction quickly and garnered this attention from DIY "twisting, high-gain riffs weave their way around a frantic rhythm section, fit to collapse at any moment from the speed such fury requires"

Plaids s/t LP artwork - cover design by Kyle McPartlin

This will be the third collaboration between Art for Blind and Plaids following first releasing their s/t 7” and their split cassette with Aussie four-piece No Action.
